People may have been taking selfies 20 years ago (Myspace angles, anyone?) but they definitely weren't taken the same way they are now, whether we're talking about frequency, ease, or more about confidence levels. And while it's nice to get an ego boost on Instagram every now and again, it often seems as though selfies have become compulsive. People will literally take them everywhere, and sometimes, it's an actual problem.
Just this past weekend, Twitter user @MariaRMGBNews provided the bird app with some seriously sad proof of how some people lack shame in even the most solemn environments. In a tweet, she shares:
"Today I had one of the most harrowing experiences of my life. Regrettably it didn't seem everyone there found it quite so poignant."
The accompanying photo, taken at Auschwitz concentration camp in Oświęcim, Poland, reveals a woman smiling and posing on the train tracks that were used to transport Jewish prisoners to the facilities. Most never made it out.
You'd think that people would have a little more respect while visiting a labor and extermination camp where over one million people were murdered, but we're living in the age of the influencer, and people are as entitled, narcissistic, and obtuse as ever.
